Core Hardware Requirements
Compatible Devices
- Android tablets and smartphones
- Google Chromebooks
- Apple MacBooks, iPads, and iPhones
- Windows laptops and Surface Tablets
Connectivity
To fully take advantage of our platform and redundancy, we recommend devices that are both WiFi & SIM compatible.
It is imperative that all devices are tested in every active area of the terminal, including yard area, berths, warehouses, offices, as well as the area in between, to ensure that WiFi or cellular data is transmittable. If areas are located with little or no connectivity, we recommend installing WiFi extensions to boost the signal strength to reach these areas.
Recommended Tablet Brands
Current releases of Samsung or LG tablets are recommended in the field. One field tested option is the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active2 series tablets. This is only one option. Model availability may vary by region and service provider.
Recommended Tablet Sizes
Tablets with at least 8-inch displays or larger are recommended in the field.
We strongly suggest you test all devices in every active area of the terminal, and with primary users present, to best ensure successful staff adoption and proactively locate potential connectivity problems or dead zones.
Recommended Table Case & Protection
Tablets used at the terminal will inevitably face much wear and tear. Taking measures to protect field devices is recommended. The OtterBox Utility Series Latch II Case is our field tested choice. Included is rotating hand strap, leg and neck straps, and an accessory bag for 7-8 inch tablets.
Additional Hardware Recommendations
Built-in Camera
To record pictures of container damages or to record general cargo on dock receipts.
GPS
To show the user's current location at the terminal. This is useful for locating containers for users that are not familiar with the terminal yard areas.
Extended Battery Life / External Battery Packs / Backup Tablets
We recommend choosing tablets that provide extended battery life. If a user is in a location where charging is not possible, we recommend having a battery pack or fully charged spare tablet available nearby.
Outdoor Case or Enclosure
Some terminal operations will need to continue even under rain or bad weather conditions. We recommend that some or all tablets designated for outdoor use be enclosed in weather-proof cases to protect the device from water damage.
Screen Brightness and Shade Accessories
For tablets that will be used in direct sunlight, consider using tablets with brighter screens, adding detachable hoods to provide shade, and anti-glare screen protectors for the users to clearly see the screen.
